Tiago Melo (“we”, “our”, or “us”) built ChronoSum (“the App”) as a commercial application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use the App.

Information We Do Not Collect Ourselves

We do not operate any server, account system, or backend. The App does not require you to sign in. All durations you enter, every calculation on the tape, your saved calculations in History, and your display preferences (plain-number unit, display format) are stored locally on your device using Apple’s on-device storage (SwiftData and UserDefaults). None of this data ever leaves your device through the App itself.

Advertising and Information Collected by Third Parties

The App displays banner advertisements through Google AdMob to support its free distribution. AdMob is a third-party service operated by Google. When the App requests an ad, AdMob may collect, on behalf of Google:

  • The Advertising Identifier (IDFA) — only when you have granted App Tracking Transparency permission (see below). When permission is denied, the App requests non-personalized ads and the IDFA is not associated with the request.
  • Coarse device and network information (device type, OS version, language, approximate location derived from IP address).
  • Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks).

Google uses this information to deliver, measure, and improve advertisements. Google’s handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and, for advertising specifically, the How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services document.

App Tracking Transparency

On first launch, the App presents the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt asking for permission to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies. This permission controls whether AdMob may use your IDFA for personalized advertising:

  • If you allow tracking: AdMob may use the IDFA to deliver personalized ads.
  • If you ask the App not to track: the App requests non-personalized ads, and the IDFA is not sent with the ad request.

You can change this decision at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on your device, or specifically for the App in Settings → ChronoSum.

Permissions the App May Request

  • Tracking — explained above. Only used to control personalized advertising.
  • Share Sheet — when you tap Share on a calculation, iOS presents the system share sheet so you can copy or send the plain-text arithmetic block to another app of your choice. The App does not transmit the text anywhere itself; the destination is entirely your choice.

The App does not request access to your contacts, calendar, photos, location, microphone, camera, or health data.

Data Storage

Saved calculations and the App’s preferences are stored locally on your device using SwiftData and UserDefaults. None of this data is synced to iCloud by the App, sent to any server, or shared with any third party. Standard iCloud Backup or Finder/iTunes encrypted backup of your device will include the App’s data as part of the device backup.

Children’s Privacy

The App is a generic utility intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Advertising delivered through AdMob is configured as the App’s audience requires; if you believe a child has used the App, please contact us to discuss the request.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
